A more detailed Background profile:

Since 1987 Ross Caughey has worked in a variety of geological terrains around Australia. Much of his work has been a mix of extensive exploration field work plus computer applications, documentation, interpretation and report preparation.

International fieldwork has included Myanmar (Burma), Ontario (the Red Lake district), Turkey and the United Kingdom; with research, computer applications and geophysical imagery processing covering a range of other countries.

While based in Kalgoorlie, as a project geologist for Great Central Mines, he conducted much of the mapping, sampling and initial drilling that first identified the world-class Plutonic ore body (which has since produced over 5 Moz of gold since 1990, under the ownership of Plutonic Resources, Homestake Mining and Barrick Gold Corp.) and was involved in the extensive drilling programs at Centaur Mining's Lady Bountiful Extended prospects. With M.I.M. Exploration he was an integral part of the team exploring for repetitions or extensions of the unusual Tick Hill high-grade gold mineralisation, in high-grade metamorphic rocks south of Mt. Isa.

More recently, Ross has worked in South Australia and the Northern Territory, on structurally, metamorphically and metasomatically complex Proterozoic rocks of the Eyre Peninsula and uranium/thorium/rare-earth-rich rocks of the Harts Range gem-fields; and in the Davenport Range, southeast of Tennant Creek; and in the Peake & Denison Range, a northern extremity of the Flinders Ranges, and flanking Great Artesian Basin stratigraphy.

He has, over many years, worked in various locations in the gold-fields of Victoria, including the Ballarat-Bendigo region, and has become very familiar with the mountains, geology and old mines of the Woods Point - Walhalla gold-field.

Ross has worked as far afield as Myanmar (Burma), Turkey, and the Red Lake gold district in northern Ontario, and has travelled extensively overseas, including work as a geotechnical consultant in the U.K.

In the complex Proterozoic terranes of South Australia and the Northern Territory, he has conducted ground radiometric surveys to locate and define uranium, thorium and REE (rare earth element) mineralisation with considerable success. Ross has also conducted site investigations and archaeological work using electromagnetic (EM) and ground penetrating radar (GPR) ground surveys.

Fieldwork over the years has included numerous drilling programs in various environments, including planning, supervising and logging, with the development of considerable proficiency in logging and interpreting complex geology in drill cuttings and diamond-drill core. Ross has extensive experience in geological mapping, sampling and assessment and interpretation of prospect areas.

To compliment his field experience and abilities, Ross is proficient and creative in the use of computer applications such as geographic information systems (GIS), computer-aided drafting (CAD) and geophysical image processing and enhancement. He is also experienced in accessing, reviewing and manipulating available open-file digital data. He is in the rare position of being experienced at personally following data from collection in the field (sampling, drill logging, mapping, geophysical surveying, etc.) to drafting, database/GIS compilation and manipulation, gridding and imaging, and the subsequent (and simultaneous) analysis and interpretation of results, and production of plans, cross-sections and other data presentations. He is also experienced and proficient in the generation of statutory reports in digital format, as is now required by most state and territory authorities.

Software applications he is familiar with, or proficient in, include MapInfo and Arcmap (GIS), MicroStation (CAD), ER Mapper and Intrepid (geophysical imaging and processing), Micromine, and the likes of Surfer and Photoshop.

Ross has prepared intensively researched, comprehensive project assessment and Target Generation reports for companies in several areas of Western Australia, Victoria, Queensland and the Northern Territory of Australia.

Ross is a member of the Australasian Institute of GeoScientists (AIG), Geological Society of Australia (GSA) and Society of Exploration Geologists (SEG).
