EDS was established at the start of 2008, and operated as a geological consultancy service under the umbrella group Flagstaff GeoConsultants Pty Ltd until the disbanding of Flagstaff in July 2014.
The senior consultant at EDS is geologist Ross Caughey, who has worked in the minerals exploration industry for more than 25 years and was a member of Flagstaff since its founding in the 1990s.
Most of Ross Caughey's experience has been in various regions in Australia, though he has travelled extensively and worked as a geologist overseas.
Experience spans geological fieldwork, ground geophysical surveys, drilling, digital and computer applications, GIS, and detailed research, reporting and target-generation.
EDS recognises that the principal aim of exploration is discovery, not just activity.
Geological fieldwork: mapping, sampling, drilling programs, core logging, etc.; ground geophysical surveys (conductivity (EM), radiometric, radar (GPR), etc.).
Research, review and assessment of project and prospect data: report preparation; target generation.
GIS (Geographic Information Systems) - capture and manipulation in digital format of multiple data sets (e.g. mapping, mineral occurrences, topography, satellite imagery, geophysics); digital or hard-copy output.
Geophysical data processing, gridding, image enhancements and algorithm imaging.
(And the conversion of geophysical imagery to GIS-compatible formats.)
Drafting: all applications (geological, environmental etc.).
Digitizing & scanning of current and historical maps and drawings.
Sourcing and processing available
open-file datasets (e.g. government data).
Map-making: from simple brochure-sized plans, images for documents or Powerpoint presentations, to complex or large A0/oversized maps.
Digital-format data:- all data, including large-format plans, can be supplied in, or converted to, digital format (e.g. PDF)
(e.g. for reporting purposes).
Multimedia preparation for presentations and displays.
Plan Printing and Plotting:- large-scale (to oversize A0) full-colour in-house plotting capabilities.
Environmental: site surveys, geophysics, monitoring and advice
- in collaboration with Dr Tim Tutt, a consultant environmental engineer based in regional Victoria, and with Ron Palmer, senior geophysicist at PGC Geophysics Consulting in Queensland.
